12" Slate Tile

Hey someone want to give me a quick guess on 12" slate tile for a deck project. It's late and I want to finish this estimate, I am going to give an allowance for the slate so she can pick it. I just need a ball park on a mid grade quality to base the allowance on.

Thanks.

I wouldn't rely on us out here in god knows where, to give you a price that fits into your numbers.

Re: 12" Slate Tile

Robert, you have a Capco Tile down in the Springs, you should find some gauged slate tile down there that retails around $5.50 a square foot. With slate there is no mid grade, it's either crap or good. IMO.

Are you installing the tile?

Re: 12" Slate Tile

McFarland Cascade has a 16"x16" slate deck tile - it's a piece of slate with a high density plastic substrate glued to the bottom. I think they go for around $30/ ea. I've used them on one project as insets to the decking. It was a pain in the ass to frame because the tiles weren't as thick as the decking but the finished look was great.

Re: 12" Slate Tile

Thanks to Mike and Mac, that was what I was looking for. Just a number to plug in for an allowance.

My brother has done his fair share of tile work... So he will be laying it and teaching me what to do. It should be real straight forward though I think we will make it 11' X 11' and frame the border with 2 layers of decking to match the steps and the lower deck.
