They are a pain in the ass not only from the extra dollars stand point they add to the job, but in trying to locate them, make them accessible and not have them ugly up a nice looking remodel. If you have a jetted tub it's pretty easy to deal with since you can double up the use of the access to the pump, but when you don't have a jetted tub and no access and have something like a tiled face on a tub deck we are having to find creative methods to place these things. Last one the vanity side was against the tub deck so we ended up installing there with an access panel inside the vanity. Before that we had to install one on the other side of the room on a job inside the separate toilet room with an access panel...

Im on Nat Gas and was wondering about efficency/cost/reliability-quality of the 2 differ types of water heaters ( power & direct vent models ) , is it just an exaust difference or actual piping difference .

Wanted to get rid of b-vent entirely since im going high-eff on the furnace so wondering what best choice would be .

Choices are Rheem , Bradford White and John Wood mostly

Im in Alberta , Canada if that matters

Thanks , Chris

I have a sewer latteral to run this week for another builder/friend of mine and he wants me to put the clean out in the crawl space. I always put the clean out out side about two foot away from the foundation using a wye and a 45. I do not like placing it in the basement or crawl space because if you have a blockage and have to use the clean out you end up with a crawl space full of **^% and you have to drag your clean out snake to the crawl space. So I am just curious what most of you guys like?

Ok guys. I purchased a house im going to remodel and noticed that someone at some point cut a whole 2x8 joist for the bath waste . Whats the plan of action for this in most states as im sure some of you plumbers have come across this in the US. Also i noticed that half the house had pipes running in the center of joists but only half inch cooper and the other half had the copper running below the joists. hows it ment to be or are both ways fine. In UK it's fine running pipes through joists as long as they stick within the code limits.

Cheers guys
