Unlike most here I started in another trade. My father owned a service station (definition for you young guys: gas station that also repaired automobiles). My 9th birthday present was a small tool set and going to work with dad. At the age of 15 I came an NAISE (now ASE) Certified Master Automotive Technician, past all 9 of the original test in one sitting. The year I graduated from high school I went on to teach Automotive Fuels and Electricity at Prairie State Collage in Chicago Heights Il. Spent years in the show car circuit. Did a stint as an engine and chassis set up technician in ASA stock car racing. After 20 years, I left the automotive field for hire. Spent 5 years as a multi-craftsmen in industry. Woke up one morning and told my wife I was not having fun any more. Time for another change.
After a short contemplation (a few hours) I decided to work as a remodeler for hire (helped friends and family for years for free). Lake County requires a test for a GC, HVAC and electrical contractor. Acquiring insurance, bonds and my licensees was the first order of business. Tests taken and past, I'm now a "contractor" in 3 disciplines. Everything from my past taught me attention to detail and it's the little things that matter. 24 years latter I'm still here. Learned a lot over the years.
My primary is interior remodeling.

About once a year I do a small exterior project, like this one.
I do enjoy building furniture. A simple stool and a cradle for our grandson.
